Explicitus 5

It was the time when the neo-rural was fashionable (I suppose as a reaction to the confinement of so many people in bedroom communities), memories of childhood and the lure of the contact with nature and the beautiful surroundings we pushed to want to recover the small room as more than just a haven for weekend getaways.
While we were painting brightly colored windows, or shared the evening with friends by the fireside, we dreamed of creating a new life, away from the urban hustle and transfer.
It was at that time when we decided to drill a new well. Since in the summer months was practically dry old thought it was the time before to dream, to ensure sufficient water flow by drilling a new, deeper than we guarantee the supply.
We hired a company specializing in drilling, consisting of two brothers, one of whom practiced dowsing, who assured us water flow enough to not have to worry about the future. Something quite credible, given that this is a land of many springs that supply mineral water half the world, being one of the best known our immediate neighbor.
And this was precisely the problem. Yes, the drill was a success. Marked the flow promised installed a pump, piping, tank and ... the following year the new well was dry.

Our neighbor, the famous spring, had drilled new wells deeper, so that the water table had dropped, sucking the water from our own.
Fortunately, thanks to having the well recorded, and the insistence of our father, agreed: we would be they who would pass the water to us. Since then the spring water comes into our house through a pipe.
Our uncle was now able to irrigate his potatoes without having to deal with pumping water.

At that time it was rented as a second residence, a retired couple who used to spend on it several months a year, avoiding the coldest of winter, which was negotiated with them the realization of some improvements, such as the addition of a small sink to avoid trips to the old outhouse, located in the block, every time you have to meet their physiological needs. They worked very well hire a toll, which was the installation of various posts for the laying of a cable connection to the nearest located about 300m. of the house.
It also probed the possibility of connecting to the mains, but the owner of the property adjacent (same as telephone poles allowed) refused to allow the passage of the electric line for his land, saying disagreements with the company, that, in practice, meant to spite the neighbor (that means, us) as revenge against the company.
A luminous reasoning...! That left us in the dark!

Tenants, however, with the help of a relative, they managed to cobble together a low battery-powered electric system.
They should also be removing the old coal stove in the kitchen refinishing the doors of the rooms, the replacement of the old glass door entry or rudimentary terracing pavement giving access to the house.
All in very precarious conditions, this did not involve any substantial improvements to housing, but prevented further deterioration.
To all this, my uncle was seized of land cultivation, harvesting every year potatoes and beans for household consumption, which meant the constant maintenance and clearing of the whole farm.
This lease lasted about five years until, on my return from the military, my brother and I think take care of the house.

The grandmother went in the house along with the daughter and son, living in the same precarious as ever. Without running water, they had to pull the pulley of a well away from the house, beside which was the laundry, which in winter had to break the ice to wash clothes, until eventually able to get an old pump the water near them home.
No light has always had to illuminate your evenings with a carbide lamp (which I still have) until the gas bottles Butzir appeared that could power the lamp and replacing the old kitchen stove coal.
I also remember a radio with a battery pack almost as large as the device and an external antenna to pick up the signal consisting of a long copper wire stretched from the roof to a post away from the house. These were the conditions that I lived during my childhood summers.

In the mid 70's grandmother suffered a stroke that forced the family to leave the house to move into town. The house was so, temporarily abandoned.

He served the house, despite its small dimensions, such as temporary shelter for up to twelve people during the war. In the dramatic moments of the arrival of the national winners of the conflict, while the Republicans were flying bridges and the coup with its aviation bombed the town center, several neighbors and relatives came to take refuge in it, especially at night (as during the day had to continue to meet their obligations) as far as possible avoid greater evils.

They lived poor and badly than they could grow in the narrow and steep terraces surrounding the house, besides raising a pig, a calf, housed in the small basement and a few chickens and rabbits who managed to keep out of any marauding fox. This time they left the discontinuous and precarious work were: the grandfather of forest pawn or in some work, and grandmother cook in hotels or private homes. The precariousness of the war, the town was still a summer resort for the affluent.
Thus they were raising their children while they grew older, but the grandfather died before any of his children to marry, so that, as children, had to help support the family.
The mortgage could not be settled until the 60's, when my father had his own family and had to emigrate as he had done his brother.

This is a call for help!

This call should be understood as a request for support (any kind) for the protection of habitat and specimens that populate it, threatened with extinction.

Here I want to tell you the story of a house.
From this house.

From my house.

It was back in 1929 when my grandfather ordered to build it. Yes, just the year of CRACH, as if only because it was already doomed.
But the stock market crash probably did not even notice, not only because they have actions of any kind, nor news, not New York, but also of where America was. He already had his own particular crisis chronic and permanent. And that was the cause that motivated the construction of this house, raised a force of blood and watered with their sweat, which is how the poor get what little they have.
Fed up with the constant changes of residence to which he was forced landlords who rented housing, decided to provide their own space up a small room in the land he had inherited. Thus his family - the wife and three children - should not move back, even if it meant that mortgaged beyond their own lives, the return of the loan you had to ask to pay.
